Spam, Spam, Spam…Snopes

Warning!  This is a rant.

I cannot stand spam emails from friends and family. Drives me nuts.  Forwarded crap that hasn’t been checked or verified.  Some of it is quite offensive and I can’t even believe it was forwarded without a through reading.  Things like ‘Don’t Mock God’ where it is ok that a woman sends her daughter off with drunks with only a prayer to guide her and then it is implied that the reason the daughter is dead is because she said in response to her mother’s prayer / request to carry god with her that God would have to sit in the trunk there was no room in the car.  (paraphrased version).

Or how about the junk email regarding Robin William’s speech called ‘A Great Plan’ or ‘The Plan’.   First off, it is not from Robin Williams, and secondly if one reads it carefully – it really is quite offensive!  ::shakes head::  Though in the case of this email being sent, I totally understood why the original forwarder (a relative) sent it along…. and trust me, I believe he actually believes it.

Then there are other emails about women needing to be careful in parking garages for fear of getting thier ankles slashed, or the sick kid needing money, or a thousand other emails – which, by some good intentions and some note, have made their way to my inbox.

Very rarely do I repond. However on the top two I just mentioned, I most certainly did.

People – go to snopes.com and research this stuff before emailing it on.  Stop with the junk and trash.  Passing misinformation makes you no more innocent than the spammer trying to swindle money out of naive internet users or the elderly.

::still shaking head::

  1. Browsing your writings and have to say, yes yes and YES to this. I am plagued with these forwards as well, and usually ignore them, unless it is SO far off base, I have to call them on it. That being said, I am still waiting on my free passes to Disney World from Bill Gates… hmmmmmmmm
