Grimoire for the Poet

Pages fill
snapshots of verb
dressed as nouns
between dried adjective leaves
bound
between lips
sealed with kisses
and tears
rages and fears.
Open to a page
and find sages
basil and thyme
categorized and labeled
with obscurities
and obscenities
rationed out
between horizons
invisibly drawn
and waiting.
Flip forward or
saunter backwards
crisp moments of life
and the smell of
an old library fill
senses
pores of skin
releasing joys
and sins
laid bare for
the bold to discover.
Come, upon the podium
caress the features
cloth wrapped
delicious sweets
savor to be savored
a dusk owl
whispers your name
from the shelf.
dare you?
dare any of us?
aaaaaah
but the poet will.
