There are no notes

There are no notes,
the symphony is silent
tenor whispers no names
violin quiet
flute and harp still
from this side of the glass
the keys plunk and plaster
for every effort
no music finds its way
through cluttered halls
even the creaks and causes
lift no noise
to fill the emptiness…
there is only I
in the company of a thousand
penned verbs
wingless and
waiting for a breath
a measure
some salutation
or end credit
but alas
there are no notes
the symphony is silent

… today
