Wesley’s Words

His days are numbered

cumbered and layerd

with vice

well whithered hours

mix with sour

moments believed

to be lost

and he wonders

if the price was

worth the cost.

His hands lay bare

tattered and worn

from gageing to

wiring, saddles

and thorn

as they cast

credit on framed

fame

ages gone

his was the life to be

grand

now he sits in empty stands

waiting for the field

to blossom with fierce

beasts

claw, talon, and shields

but sometimes he wonders

why he is here.

His, wife is beautifuly

aging, she works in

the office

mingles the

papers

His children are grown

some forgot

some known

all are proudly his and

most would say

he’s everyone’s trust

But he wonders

has it

been enough.

Most days he

lectures morning

tradition of wood, shop

and farthing

lingers in hallways

leather on paved

doorways

After the noon

he picks up the skin

and teaches

what it takes to win

but what are they winning

when the timer is up

when the moment of luck

wears out and

all they have

is looking at them selves.

As fading features

fade farther under glass

pondering

will he say enough.

Will he

say

enough.

Coach….  Coach…

we’re ready….

Stumble, tumble,

meander and maze

he takes a breath in

as words work on

the way

out of his mind into

the air, held for a

second on tongue

cheek and hair

before diving

in.

“We

suffer this field

day in

day out

we bleed for the ‘Mater

the glory and crowd.

We tramble those

who dare to engage

we revel in

glory

or languish when

halls of great men

call others to their side.

We wear colors and letters

with pride

but…”

His conjuntion lending

silence a nod

as he looks to

the glowing board for

council and pause

as almost men

wait

they… wait

“but what is worth a life

if that life does not find

life worthy?

You are not just warriors

you are leaders and

take care

those you trample should

ONLY be out HERE!

The halls and ways

of the walls of our

days hold our

souls they are the

same, different

scuffle, shadows

of forgotten shoes

they are less and more

rich and poor

they are

you

they are your charges

not stones to be kicked

not boards for bantering

your bitting wit

Not the conquest of your

smaller mind

not the details found

on cheaper wine

they are your concern

care and court

they give weight to

your sport

for if they did not

exist

your worthy game

would not be

worth

playing…

am I making sense?

Treat that place

as what you protect

not what you pillage

because what you pillage

may come to haunt

you…. when time

clock and luck

run out.”

He tosses the ‘back

the worn out frame

one face circled

in the crowd of

hundreds.

And inquisitive faces

return nothing

as coach’s

back

fading.

“Figure it out

see you at

practice

on Tuesday.”

Revolution

Don’t believe
conformity

Don’t believe
in apples first
and women are to blame

Don’t believe
in subjugation
Don’t believe
the lies
Don’t believe
in casting out a truth
by simply blinding eyes
Don’t believe
the reasons
when reasons
sway to whim
Don’t believe in
supplication
when the poor fight
instead of them

I

and
this
::head::

and
this

We waste it

We waste it
trade it
don’t even taste it
sitting behind
F’villes and wars
staggered messages
we little time whores
thinking life eternal
the world a buy and sell
we’ll make more
living hell
because we

waste it
watch it bleed in
high definition
can’t relate to scenes
we’ve seen before
in black, white, and blue ray
colored boredoms
kingdoms
falling around us
in useless squander
across a ticker tape
oft mistaken
for a line of code
by the general public
and why?

Because they too
waste it
give it away and fake it
hope greed won’t
show through the make up
smiling devils always
trade up
with you and me on the bottom
giving our hand outs
like saints
while hell freezes over
and mortgages
are forgiven
oh wait
my mistake

we waste it
play with it
and find comfort
in nothing but what
is around us
we have half of us
manipulating
the other half
designating
a life for the half they
don’t give a shit about
we have people facing off
while rich men jack off
with the money
they stole from the
farm they destroyed
and the shrimp man
they poisoned
And why?

because

we waste it
freedom, time, charity and worth
we forget about our neighbors
and we forget about the earth
we type on this
we win fake gold
to have a chance at fake fame
to screw a fake girl
on Wednesday!

And in the end I ask
is it worth it?
does your God or mine
fancy this destruction
of the thing he put in place?
or are we so filled with a sense
of don’t belong and longing
for an afterlife
we forget this is a life
now

yes… because

We waste it.
on things like true this
and true that
and manipulation of politics
destruction of your called misfits
creation of order in our images
decimation of life because it won’t fit
solidificationof wealth
because we can

and all the while
you and I
sit back and wonder why
all this shit is happening
with our ab makers and our zero beer
we forget to look in the mirror
because

we
waste
it.

Don’t Speak

Don’t speak
don’t type
don’t write
rhythm,
poetic drivel
or rhyme.
Don’t quietly
sit there and whine
about the losses
and the fine
examples of failure
held over
our heads
like we were
already dead!

Don’t whimper
don’t simmer
don’t wait
in patient
supplication
gratification of
state to state
motivated by
the need to
seek peacefully
the things
we should already
have!

No

Take it
demand it
stop trying
to request it.

Because it’s not
a failure
to communicate
we’re not at a table
to negotiate.

Freedom is not a maze
to navigate
or a truce to appropriate.
Freedom is
demanded
commanded
and undeniably
branded on souls!
And from the first bullet fired
to the lantern lifted
setting the world on fire
to the shots on campus
ringing throughout memphis
to radicals walking
in masses
and women at the gate
facing threats
staring down hate
change was never
motivated, moved
or manipulated
by the bendable.
but by the immovable
irreversible
permanent
foot planted
and well cemented
resolve of voices
raised up
shouting
and undeniably heard

so what are we waiting for?

It’s that simple

Placid
acid
slithers beneath my skin
burning every notion
of civil dialogue
with this demagogue;
inciting
biting
and inviting
demons imagined
impassioned
with rage
to take stage
and gloat
from pulpits
vote.
or drink
don’t think
his cup of morali-tea
simmered in 2000
seasons
giving reasons
stoning solution
civil execution
of rights.
Now the acrid motion
of emotion
melts past indecision
fists grip
feet shift
the horizon changes hue
from me to you
blue
into red
into orange
solutions
bringing out our
revolutions
to engage
confront
confound
into the ground
our feet pressed down
and running
free
equality
negating tyranny
by a malicious majority
to be you
to be me…

It’s that simple
